San Antonio CPA Society

You can count on a network of active committees to provide a dynamic setting for CPA volunteers in the San Antonio CPA Society. You are invited and encouraged to select the committees of your interest, volunteer and get involved.

Organization Council (Staff Coordinator: Donna Wildey)

Nominations & Awards – Ted Meyer
Nominates officers, directors and TSCPA board members.
Selects recipients for the various honors and awards.
Nominates candidates for TSCPA awards.

Strategic Planning – Edie Cogdell
Directs the long-range focus of the Chapter.

Membership Council (Staff Coordinator: Amanda Talaat)

Membership Recruitment & Retention – Daniel Rodriguez & Chuck Clark
Recruits and welcomes new members and promotes involvement.
Recommends new services to address the changing needs of members.
Attends regional CPA Swearing-In Ceremony.
Greets members and their guests at Society meetings.

Coordinates Student Auxiliary meetings.

New CPA Involvement – Melanie Geist & Maria Romero
Provides a forum for the involvement and development of leadership skills for its member CPAs through the planning and coordination of activities that encourage social and community service involvement.
Encourages all members to participate with emphasis those who are under 40 years of age or have recently obtained their certification.

Golf Tournament Task Force - Fred Timmons, Jim Tsakopulos & Randy Vogel

Plans and administers the annual CPA Golf Tournament benefiting the Academic Matching Gifts Fund.

External Relations Council (Staff Coordinators: Donna Wildey)

CPA Volunteer Bank – Donna Wildey, coordinator
Provides speakers to local organizations on request.
Places CPAs on the Boards of Directors of nonprofit agencies.
Promotes volunteerism in community functions.

Funlympics – Lynn Kupper & Tracy Johnson
Organizes and coordinates Funlympics, a half-day sporting event for at-risk children. Work is concentrated between May and July.

Education & Accounting Careers – Blaise Bender & Wendi Taber
Supports the TSCPA Career Awareness initiatives designed to attract high quality students to the accounting profession.
Administers the Accounting Excellence Award and Educational Foundation Matching Funds Programs.

Administers the Accounting Scholarship Program.

Plans & coordinates accounting career workshops.

Financial Literacy - Robert McWhorter

Promotes activities that increase financial literacy for citizens in the community.

Develops and presents educational materials designed to increase practical knowledge of general financial issues.

Cooperates with Education & Accounting Careers Committee to promote financial literacy for high school and college students.

Jr. Duel in Ol' San Antonio - Don Crane

Organizes and coordinates Jr. Duel in Ol' San Antonio, a personal finance case high school competition. Work is concentrated between September and February.

Continuing Education Council (Staff Coordinator: Sarah Bloxham)

CE Advisory – Blaise Bender
Serves as an advisory group for scheduling professional seminars, including annual updates, new issues and hot topics, designed to meet the needs of CPAs practicing in a rapidly evolving profession.

CE Symposium – Lisa Mattson
Plans and coordinates an annual two-day symposium consisting of multiple speakers and topics. Promotes the Symposium to CPAs throughout South Texas.

Regulatory & Legislative Council (Staff Coordinator: Donna Wildey)

Professional Ethics – Tom Akin
Assists in answering ethics questions of members.
Provides the means for filing of complaints by other CPAs or the public.
Assists TSCPA Professional Ethics Committee in determining cases to be heard for possible infractions.

Public Affairs – Pat Wilson
Encourages interest in government affairs.
Promotes acquaintances with local legislators.
Serves on the San Antonio CPA Society's Political Action Group.
