Your TXCPA-SA Chapter is reaching out to your colleagues – CPAs, CPA candidates, student members and affiliates – to learn how you all are coping with the new normal brought on by COVID-19.
TXCPA-SA member Michelle Avila, CPA, an Associate Professor of Accounting and Program Head of Accounting at Our Lady of the Lake University, offered the following information about her new normal.
Are you currently working from home, in your office solo or in the normal pre-COVID-19 arrangement? Working from home. I am very busy in meetings and recording videos.
How many people did you work with normally? 60-70
What was a typical day like before “Stay Home, Work Safe”? Work from home 2-3 days out of the week and on campus 2-3 days of the week. Office hours all done on campus (5 hrs per week).
What is your typical day like now? Glued to the computer from 10 am – late hours. Working longer hours than before and making myself accessible to students every day at all hours of the day. Recording videos for lectures and meeting with students online. Lots of cleaning and cooking!
Can you share a small or big success story or silver lining that you didn’t expect? Learned a lot about technology!
Any words of wisdom for your fellow accounting types? Make time to exercise and rest your eyes from the computer. I need to start doing this myself.
What do you miss the most? Seeing my students
What are you most grateful for now? Life, health, my family, my faith, my home, my job, food, toilet paper(!), OLLU Leadership.
Truer words were never spoken! Thanks, Michelle.
