Your TXCPA-SA Chapter is reaching out to your colleagues – CPAs, CPA candidates, student members and affiliates – to learn how you all are coping with the new normal brought on by COVID-19.
TXCPA-SA student member Dobie Garner, an accounting major at UTSA and staff auditor at Armstrong, Vaughan & Associates, offered the following information about his new normal.
Are you working from home, working in the office by yourself or has there been no change in your work arrangement? Mostly from home. A few sparse office visits.
How many people do you work with normally? About 27 members of our firm. Most of my work is done individually unless we are on a field engagement.
What was a typical day like before Stay Home/Work Safe? School, work, exercise when I can, eat, sleep, repeat.
What is your typical day like now? About the same. Except school is online and work is done mostly from home.
What is a success story you have had since COVID-19 changed how we work/study? I made a 96 on my government & non-profit exam!
How about something that hasn’t worked out as well as you’d hoped? I haven’t been out running as regularly as I used to 🙁
What do you miss the most? Going out to dinner or a movie with my wife.
What are you the most grateful for right now? The opportunity to re-focus on the things most important in life rather than getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of life.
Any words of wisdom for your fellow students? This might go away in a few weeks or a few years. However, we have to focus on being responsible individuals and holding ourselves accountable. Events outside our control shouldn’t dictate us being the best version of ourselves. Stay strong.
